Brazil's unemployment rate fell to 8.7 percent in October, down from 9 percent in September, the Brazilian Geography and Statistics Institute (IBGE) reported on Thursday.
It was the lowest unemployment rate registered since IBGE started the study in 2002.
The rate was significantly lower than that of a year ago, which stood at 9.8 percent.
IBGE researcher Cimar Azeredo, who coordinates the monthly unemployment survey, believed that the unemployment rate in November will continue to fall.
"Unemployment is falling and employment is rising in quantity and quality," said Azeredo, explaining that there were more formally employed workers than before, and that the workers' incomes have also increased.
