Taliban insurgents killed seven policemen and took away seven others in an early Friday morning attack on a police checkpost in southern Afghan Kandahar province, a district police commander said.
"A group of militants today morning surrounded a police checkpost in Arghandab district of northern Kandahar," Abdul HakimJan, a district police commander, told Xinhua via phone. "They killed seven policemen and kidnapped another seven policemen."
Arghandab, a district north of Kandahar city, has seen intensifying fighting between insurgents and Afghan and foreign combined force over the weeks.
The Taliban, removed from power by the U.S. invasion in late 2001, has waged insurgency against Afghan administration and the international troops deployed in the country.
Rising militancy-related violent incidents have killed over 5,800 people so far this year in Afghanistan.
