Syria has decided to participate in the U.S.-sponsored Mideast peace conference scheduled for Tuesday and would send deputy Foreign Minister Faysal Mekdad to lead the Syrian delegation, the official SANA news agency reported on Sunday.

The official news agency said Syria decided to accept the invitation after receiving a copy of the agenda which said there would be a session on reviving the Syrian-Israeli peace talks.

After an extraordinary meeting of the Arab League (AL) follow-up committee of the Arab Peace Initiative on Friday, Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem said that Syria will decide whether to attend or not in light of the meeting agenda it receives.

Damascus has been demanding the issue of the Golan Heights be included on the agenda of the upcoming U.S.-sponsored Middle East peace conference in Annapolis.
