Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Sunday slammed the upcoming Mideast peace conference to be held in the United States, saying he was "sorry" that some Arab leaders decided to attend this meeting, the official IRNA news agency reported.
"The conference has no benefit to the oppressed Palestinian people, it is only aimed at supporting the Zionist occupier," Ahmadinejad was quoted as saying in a speech.
He accused some Arab countries of giving concessions to Israel by joining the meeting, saying he was "sorry that some people around us have plans to attend the conference".
"This meeting will have no benefit like before," he said, adding that "participation in this conference is a sign of a lack of political intelligence".
Nearly 50 countries and organizations would participate the international conference being held in Annapolis on Tuesday, with the aim of helping resume the stalled Mideast peace process.
Since U.S. President George W. Bush proposed in July to hold the international conference, Iran has condemned it and said it would be doomed to fail. On Oct. 13, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei urged Muslim countries to boycott the conference, accusing Washington of trying to save Israel and to hurt the Palestinians. Source: Xinhua
