U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is to attend the U.S.-hosted Middle East conference to be held Tuesday in Annapolis, Maryland, U.N. spokesperson Michele Montas announced Monday.

Montas told reporters at the U.N. Headquarters in New York that Ban is traveling to Washington Monday, where he will meet later with the other principal members of the Middle East Quartet, namely the European Union, Russia and the United States.

The Secretary-General will travel to Annapolis, Maryland Tuesday to attend the Middle East conference being held there, the spokesperson said.

She also noted that speaking to the General Assembly last week, the Secretary-General expressed his hope that the meeting will provide the impetus for final status negotiations.
