Indonesia has been elected as a council member to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) during the organization's conference in London, local press said Tuesday.
Indonesia received 114 out of 130 total votes to ensure the membership, reported The Jakarta Post.
The IMO is the largest multilateral grouping concerned with shipping, sea trading and sea exploitation.
"The election shows the acknowledgment of the international community of Indonesia's important role in sea transportation and security," the Indonesian Embassy in London told the newspaper.
