Iran's Defense Minister Mostafa Mohammad Najjar announced Tuesday that the Islamic Republic has built a new longer-range missile with a range of 2,000 kilometers, local Fars news agency reported.
"The construction of the Ashura missile with a range of 2,000 kilometers is one of the accomplishments of the ministry of defense," Najjar was quoted as saying.
According to the report, the new missile, which is named after the holy Ashura mourning ceremony that marks the death of Shiite imam Hossein, can match the range of another missile the Shabab-3, which could hit Israel and has previously been viewed as Iran's longest range weapon.
In September, Iran said it had unveiled a missile labelled Ghadr-1 (Power) with a range of 1,800 kilometers. Source:Xinhua
