U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney went back to work on Tuesday after his heartbeat rhythm was normalized, his office said.
Cheney started his work around 7 a.m. with a meeting with President George W. Bush and an intelligence briefing, his spokeswoman Lea Anne McBride said.
He is expected to meet Bush again at the White House later in the day and travel to Texas and Missouri next week for a party fundraising events, she added.
Cheney went to see a doctor on Monday morning for cough from a cold, but was found to have a trial fibrillation, an irregular heartbeat.
During a treatment of two and half hours at George Washington University Hospital, doctors used an electrical current to shock his heart back into normal rhythm.
"The procedure went smoothly and without complication," said a White House statement. "The vice president has returned home and will resume his normal schedule tomorrow (Tuesday) at the White House."
The 66 year-old vice president, who has been suffering heart problems for years, tried to pay more attention to his health situation by changing diet and increase regular exercises.
