A roadside bombing Tuesday struck a civilian bus in southern Afghan Kandahar province, killing four civilians, injuring five others while an explosion inside home of a woman provincial official injured two security guards in western Herat province, police said.
"A bomb exploded Tuesday afternoon in Jalai district of Kandahar just as a civilian bus passed by, which resulted in four deaths and five injuries," Sayed Aqa Saqib, Kandahar's police chief, told Xinhua via phone.
Among the four killed two were women and all the five injured were children, he said.
Saqib blamed the attack on the Taliban insurgents who however so far had not made any comment.
In another development, a bomb exploded in the house of a woman provincial official injured two security guards of hers at 6 p.m. (GMT 1330) in Herat, provincial police chief Juma Adail said.
The woman official named Maria Bashir survived the blast, Adail said, adding that it was still unclear who carried out the attack.
Afghanistan has seen a sharp increase of attacks and bombings over the several months and rising militancy-related violence have killed over 5,800 people in the country.
