The governor of Brazil's northeastern State of Bahia, Jacques Wagner, has announced on Tuesday that the Fonte Nova stadium will be demolished.
The decision was made two days after a section of the grandstand in Fonte Nova stadium collapsed and killed seven people.
Built in 1958, the stadium has never had a complete reform. According to the governor's spokesmen, the new stadium will be constructed in the same place where Fonte Nova is now located. The costs will be sponsored by the state and private companies.
This reform had been mentioned previously by Jacques Wagner after receiving confirmation that Brazil would be the host of the World Cup in 2014, in the hopes that Bahia will be considered as a site for the Cup.
