Brazil will distribute free satellite images to African nations starting from 2008, the Foreign Ministry announced in a Wednesday statement.
The images will boost African nations' and organizations' ability to monitor natural disasters, deforestation, drought and desertification -- all of which can threaten agricultural production, food security and public health.
China will also participate in the program, which allows both nations to provide data and images across their large territories at a reduced price.
The satellite being used can photograph the entire planet every 26 days, using three sensors to send multi-spectrum images to three stations in China and one in Brazil.
