The constitutional assembly of Ecuador voted on Thursday to close the congress led by oppositions until a new charter is approved, a move considered to be in favor of president's left-wing proposals.
The assembly controlled by President Rafael Correa's party agreed to assume the congress' legislative power until a new charter drafted by the assembly is approved through a referendum next year.
The new charter will be debated for at least six months before the referendum.
