The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) will hold a regional meeting against chemical weapons here next month to discuss needs for training, stronger cooperation and capacity building, the Malaysian Foreign Ministry said on Friday.
The meeting, which is being jointly organized by Malaysia and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), will discuss issues concerning assistance and protection under the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC), the ministry said.
"This meeting will provide the platform for the State Parties (of ASEAN) involved to discuss the technical needs for training, measures to further enhance cooperation and the need for Capacity Building," the ministry said.
An exhibition will also be held to increase awareness among the public on the prohibition over the development, production, stockpiling, transfer and use of chemical weapons, which the OPCW will participate in, according to the ministry.
