A massive blaze that ripped through a resort place Friday in Canada's Ontario province and destroyed dozens of buildings were put under control, reports said.
The fire broke out in a plaza in the Wasaga Beach community shortly after 1:00 a.m. local time (0600 GMT) on Friday in the cottage-country region located about 150 kilometers north of Toronto, Canada's biggest city.
There have been no reports of injuries. A police spokesman said most of the buildings and structures that were destroyed are seasonal ones and nobody was in them during the fire.
Ontario Provincial Police Sgt. Mark Kinney said the main street mall area towards the east end of the town suffered significant damage, with 50 percent to 70 percent of the area destroyed.
At least eight beachfront buildings were destroyed and as many as 30 buildings sustained some damage.
Kinney said it is too early to speculate on the cause of the fire.
Wasaga Beach is one of the fastest growing communities in Ontario and boasts panoramic mountain views and 14 kilometers of white-sand beach. It is home to 17,000 full-time residents and 16,000 seasonal and part-time residents.
