A Palestinian Islamic Jihad (Holy War) militant was killed on Saturday afternoon and three were wounded in an exchange of fire with Israeli soldiers in northeast Gaza Strip, medics said.
Saraya al-Quds, an armed wing of Islamic Jihad, said in a leaflet that several militants clashed with Israeli troops while approaching them near the borders between northeast Gaza Strip and Israel.
Medics identified Ibrahim Assaleyya was killed and three others wounded by the Israeli soldiers gunfire.
Observers in Gaza expected that violence between Israel and Gaza militant groups would escalate within the coming few days as Israel announced that it intends to carry out a large-scale military operation against them.
Earlier on Saturday, Israeli helicopters launched an airstrike on al-Qassam Brigades, armed wing of Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), in east of the southern Gaza town of Khan Younis, killing five Hamas members.
Al-Qassam Brigades and Islamic Jihad vowed in two separate statements "a painful revenge on the Zionists for their crimes committed against our people."
