Sixteen members of a marriage party, including eight women, were killed and a boy was injured when their vehicle fell into a deep gorge in Rampur sub-division of Shimla district in northern India, official sources said Sunday.
The vehicle carrying the marriage party from Dankapat village of Kullu district on the way to Kingal in Rampur, fell into a 300-meter deep gorge, some 400 km north of the capital New Delhi, near Artu late Saturday night, killing 16 people on the spot, Sub-divisional Magistrate Rampur, Dilip Negi said.
According to local news agency, Press Trust of India, A 12-year-old boy was injured and admitted to government hospital.
Police said they were informed about the mishap by the locals.
All the bodies have been recovered and the district administration announced an immediate relief of 6,000 Indian rupees (about 162 U.S. dollars) to the families of the deceased, Negi said.
The exact cause of the accident was yet to be ascertained, the agency said. Source: Xinhua
