Thailand's widely-respected King Bhumibol Adulyadej made his plea for the national unity during the celebration of his 80th birthday anniversary in Bangkok.
"The country's situation in these days, as everybody knows in their minds, is uncertain. If Thais lack a national conscience and lack a sense of unity the entire nation would face misfortune," he made the remarks in front of 13 battalions of Royal Guard in a parade at the Royal Plaza.
He said that all Thai citizens should consider and make decision whether Thailand is important or not. "If yes, we should cling to honesty, reduce bias, enhance mercy and unity," he said.
The King also called for all Thais to unite for the nation's independence and security.
The King Bhumibol Adulyadej was born on Dec. 5 in the year 1927and has been Thailand's monarch since 1946. He is the longest-serving monarch in the world, after more than six decades on the throne.
