Russia on Sunday kicked off the fifth parliamentary elections, and analysts believe the pro-Kremlin United Russia led by President Vladimir Putin will secure an overwhelming victory.
The following are some quotes of voters and observers:
"My vote is important."
-- Natalya, a Putin supporter who has no doubt that the United Russia will win out in the elections but voted for a much smaller Agriculture Party, hoping the agricultural industry will be developed.
"Each party has a program that sounds good, but I trust in none of them."
-- Lyudmila, a teacher who has not yet made up her mind when entering the polling station.
"Russians usually get up late on Sunday. It's absolutely unexpected."
-- Svetlana Litjushkina, a 60-year-old observer from the Communist Party who was surprised by the crowd in her polling station early Sunday.
"Of course, I will choose the Communist Party, because it will possibly be the only opposition in the parliament."
-- A 40-year-old voter who only gave his name as Dmitri.
"Take it easy. It's me who is voting, not the president of the Russian Federation."
-- Gennady Zyuganov, who was elected the Communist Party leader in 1993, joking with busy journalists in the polling station.
"Thank God, the election campaign has ended."
-- President Putin, who dropped ballots along with his wife, Lyudmila, in a polling station out of the Kremlin and then went for lunch, saying he's in a "festival mood". Source: Xinhua
