A spokesman for the Islamic Jihad's military wing said on Monday his brigades have developed home-made rockets similar to the range of the Russian-made Katyusha.

The spokesman, who identified himself as Abu Ahmad, added that the rocket can be fired to a distance of 22 kilometers "and can hit the far north of Ashkelon city if Israel invaded Gaza Strip."

Israel threatens to unleash a large-scale offensive in the Hamas-run Gaza Strip following the increase of rocket-fire on the southern communities of Israel.

He added that the Islamic organization has fired one of the advanced rockets a few days ago and it has hit deep in Ashkelon. The range of the regular home-made rockets has often been around 12 kilometers.

"A brigade made of 70 youths, including females, is ready to blow themselves up in the Israeli army if it entered Gaza," the spokesman revealed. "The martyrdom operations cause big losses among the Israeli soldiers."
