A car bomb detonated targeted an Iraqi police patrol in Mosul City on Wednesday, killing a civilian and wounding seven others, a local police source said.
"A booby-trapped car went off at about 09:30 a.m. (0630 GMT) near a police patrol in the al-Dawwasa neighborhood in central Mosul, killing a bystander and injuring seven others," Brigadier Muhammad al-Waggaa, deputy police chief of the province said.
The attack apparently missed the police patrol and caused civilian casualties, he said.
The blast damaged several nearby civilian cars and stalls, al-Waggaa said.
Mosul, some 400 km north of Baghdad, has been a hotbed of insurgency and sectarian violence since the U.S.-led invasion in 2003.
