Palestinian parliament speaker denied on Wednesday that he sent a message from his prison, offering that Egypt takes control of Palestinian Authority (PA) compounds which Hamas seized in Gaza in June.
Senior lawmaker Azzia al-Dewik added that Egypt was mentioned during a personal conversation with an Arab member of the Israeli Knesset regarding ways of resolving Palestinian power crisis which widened after Hamas took control of Gaza by force.
The head of the Hamas-dominated Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) said that his view was that Hamas hands over the security compounds to any side, even if it was the Egyptians, in order to resume talks with President Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah movement.
Abbas, whose forces lost the Gaza Strip, suspended the national dialogue and outlined several conditions to settle the dispute.
Hamas rejects the conditions which demanded Hamas to recognize the government that Abbas formed after the crisis, making an apology to the people for June's infighting and giving up control on the security services.
In June, Hamas took over the Gaza Strip after routing forces loyal to Abbas' Fatah movement, which prompted Abbas to sack the Hamas-led coalition government and appoint a new one based in the West Bank city of Ramallah.
As a result, the geographically-divided Palestinian territorieshas been politically split into two parts -- with Hamas controlling Gaza and Fatah holding the West Bank.
