Ecuador's Foreign Minister Maria Espinosa has tendered her formal resignation, which has been accepted by President Rafael Correa, a government spokeswoman said Thursday.
Espinosa resigned for personal reasons, spokeswoman Julia Ortega told reporters without further elaboration. It was possible that she will work with the government in other areas, said the spokeswoman.
Her successor is yet to be named, but the president has expressed hopes that the new minister could bring forth a more "revolutionary" diplomatic service, Ortega said.
The foreign ministry must "respond much more to the dynamic of the new government and citizen's revolution," the spokeswoman cited President Correa as saying.
