Youth representatives from around the world on Friday comically highlighted a possible consequence of global warning -- the melting of the polar ice caps-- through a satirical representation of Santa Claus's home in the North Pole melting.

"Using our representation of Santa Claus at the North Pole dressed in shorts and sunglasses, with his feet immersed in water and watching a weather forecast showing high temperatures at the polar ice caps, we aim to humorously highlight the likely impacts of climate change if the world fails to act swiftly and effectively," said Australian youth delegate Emily Lawrence.

The comic representation Santa Claus Swelters at the North Polewas staged on the sidelines of the ongoing United Nations Climate Change Conference in Bali, which ran into its fifth day of discussions over an international agreement on enhanced global action on climate change.

The Fourth official IPCC Report warns of an array of devastating consequences of climate change. One of the most significant of these threats in terms of its wide reaching consequences is the melting of the polar caps. Negotiators and decision makers at the UNFCCC conference must work together to solve this unprecedented threat to the survival of many of the world's species and habitats, including that of humans, said Ms Lawrence.

Youth are urging delegates at the U.N. climate change conference in Bali to take strong action to address the global emissions of greenhouse gases. They are also calling for a Bali breakthrough that would trigger the momentum needed for resolving the climate crisis.
