Indonesia's state-owned weapon manufacturers have called for the issuance of a government regulation for a domestic loan scheme to finance the manufacturing of weaponry orders placed by the Defense Ministry, local media said Monday.
The government has ordered 150 armored personnel carriers (APC)from arms manufacturer PT Pindad in Bandung and asked aircraft manufacturer PT Dirgantara Indonesia to retrofit four C-130 Hercules heavy transport aircraft, reported major newspaper The Jakarta Post.
Executives from the companies made the request during a meeting with Vice President Jusuf Kalla over the weekend.
The domestic loan scheme will create an alternative funding source outside the state budget, using funds from national banking as well as regional administrations.
The draft is being written by the Finance Ministry, which will also regulate loans for the procurement of weaponry.
