Nepal will finally sign the "United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Persons with Disabilities," The Himalayan Times reported on Thursday.
According to the daily, a cabinet meeting on Dec. 6 gave the goahead to sign the convention, and the process for the signing has already begun.
Vinod Kumar Adhikary, joint-secretary at the Ministry of Women Children and Social Welfare was quoted by the daily as saying thatthe convention is likely to be signed within a week.
The convention was adopted on Dec. 13 last year and released for signing and ratification from March 30 this year. Over 118 nations have signed it and 10 nations including India and Bangladesh have already ratified it.
After signing the convention, the Nepali government will have to formulate legislations to ensure the rights of the persons living with disabilities.
