U.S. President George W. Bush called his Algerian counterpart Abdelaziz Bouteflika on Thursday to offer his support after deadly bombing attacks killed at least 26 people in the country on Wednesday, White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said.
During the telephone call, Bush "reiterated his commitment to continuing U.S. counterterrorism cooperation in North Africa in order to bring the perpetrators to justice," Perino said.
Moreover, Bush also offered condolences for the loss of innocent lives in the bombing attacks, Perino said.
Two car bombs, one targeting the offices of the U.N. High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) and the other exploding near the Algerian Supreme Court building, killed at least 26 people and left nearly 200 others injured, according to an official tally.
The United States has strongly condemned the bombing attacks.
