A Chilean court said on Thursday that it decided not to unfreeze the late General Augusto Pinochet's assets as requested by his family.

The decision was made by Santiago's 9th hall Appeals Court while the embezzlement trials of relatives and aides of Pinochet is still being processed.

Pinochet, 91, died of heart failure last year. He was suspected guilty of illegally amassing his fortune abroad during his 1973-1990 rule. Pinochet was under indictment when he died, but he was never convicted.

The Pinochet family has insisted that the multi-million-dollar money found in his accounts abroad was legitimate and called the accusations against them politically motivated.

The Supreme Court's 2nd Penal Hall recently ordered a general audit of Pinochet's assets and bank accounts to determine the origin of the funds.
