The United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Thursday imposed a ban on imports of all kinds of birds fromcentral Poland's Mazowieckie province, the official Emirates News Agency reported.
Mohammed Saeed Al Kindi, Minister of Environment and Waters, issued the ban order as a precautionary measure following reports by the World Organization for Animal Health on the emergence of bird flu cases in Mazowieckie.
The ban covered "all domestic and wild birds, including ornamental birds, and their products," according to the report.
Poland's veterinary department announced on Dec. 1 that two turkeys from a poultry farm in Mazowieckie have tested positive for the H5N1 strain of bird flu. After that, several new cases of bird flu were detected in the same province.
The cases of H5N1 are the first to be recorded in Poland among domestic fowl. Last year the disease was discovered only among wild birds.
