Eighteen Vietnamese men including 16 construction workers and two engineers died in a rockslide in Vietnam's central Nghe An province, Central Vietnam Television reported Saturday evening.
The victims, working at a quarry in Tuong Duong district to serve the construction of a hydroelectric plant, have been buried in thousands of tons of stone since Saturday morning, and their bodies have not been taken out of the debris yet.
The men aged from 21 to 50 from some northern localities were staff of the Song Da No. 5 Company, the Song Da No.2 Company, and the hydroelectric plant project management board.
The management board and construction companies have mobilized eight excavators, five trucks and hundreds of workers to the accident site to clear stone and land to take the bodies out of the debris. However, their work is very tough due to difficult access to the site caused by narrow roads and a deep abyss.
Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has asked relevant state agencies and corporations to deal with the accident's aftermath, and find out its cause, said the TV.
