Two Islamic Hamas militants were killed on early Monday morning in an Israeli airstrike in east of central Gaza Strip, medics and witnesses said.
The witnesses said that an Israeli aircraft fired two missiles at a group of militants called al-Murabiteen, who were border guards east of al-Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza Strip. Palestinian militant groups keep dozens of border guards every night near the borders between the Gaza Strip and Israel, in the hope of foiling any Israeli army incursion into Hamas-controlled territory.
Medics at al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir el-Ballah said the hospital received the bodies of two Palestinians. No more casualties were received on Monday, said the hospital.
Mo'aweya Hassanein, chief of emergency department in the health ministry, said that two Palestinians, 22-year-old Attalah Awawda and 23-year-old Joma'a Abu Hjayer, both members of Hamas armed wing, were killed in an Israeli airstrike.
Meanwhile, Palestinian residents in northern Gaza Strip said the Israeli army shelled with artillery the outskirts of Beit Lahia village in northern Gaza Strip. No injuries were reported.
Israel on Sunday rejected a Hamas offer for a ceasefire, and decided to continue its military operations against militants launching rockets at Israeli communities.
