Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday phoned his Uzbek counterpart Islam Karimov to congratulate him on his overwhelming victory in elections, the Kremlin said in a statement.
The two presidents spoke highly of the development of the bilateral relations, saying they were "ready to resolve all questions in the spirit of partnership," the statement said.
Official results said Karimov had won 88.1 percent of the vote in Sunday's elections.
Karimov, 69, became the president of the Republic of Uzbekistanin 1991. He won a reelection in 2000.
