Eight Palestinian citizens wounded on Tuesday night when a tunnel they were digging collapsed under the borders between southern Gaza Strip and Egypt, medias and witnesses said.
Rescue teams also search for a missing Palestinian under rubbles of the tunnel which was dug in al-Sallam neighborhood in Rafah town in southern Gaza Strip, witnesses told the press.
Medics confirmed that eight people were hospitalized, who were moderately injured.
Israel has said that the Palestinians had dug dozens of tunnels under the borders between southern Gaza Strip and Egypt used for smuggling weapons into Gaza used for carrying out attacks against Israel.
Israel, which controlled the borders area until Sept. 2005, had blamed Egypt for not working on preventing smuggling of weapons into the Gaza Strip, saying it has videotapes show Egyptian soldiers helping in smuggling.
Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak is scheduled to meet with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak in Egypt's Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh to discuss the issues of smuggling weapons from Egypt into Gaza.
However, the Palestinians say that most of the tunnels are used in smuggling food, clothes and cigarettes from Egypt into Gaza, as Israel keeps a tightened closure imposed on the entire Gaza Strip. Source:Xinhua
