The United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN) Thursday released a statement confirming that only 19,602 Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) (CPN-M) combatants cantoned at different cantonments have cleared the verification process.
According to the report published by the UNMIN Thursday, out of 31,318 CPN-M's "People's Liberation Army" (PLA) registered at seven main cantonments and 21 satellite camps located across the country following the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA), 15,756 male and 3,846 female combatants were found eligible after the completion of the verification.
At the press conference, the UNMIN also said that the monitoring team disqualified 12,648 combatants from being the members of the CPN-M's PLA members.
Chief of the UNMIN Ian Martin said that the verification team registered only 19,602 combatants as the members of the CPN-M combatants. Earlier, the CPN-M claimed that the number of PLA combatants was 32,250.
