The interim parliament of Nepal on Friday approved a bill for the third amendment to the interim constitution to declare the country a federal democratic republic.
Speaker Subhas Chandra Nembang announced that the bill, which was tabled by the government on Monday, seeking to overcome constitutional hurdles to declare Nepal a federal democratic republic and hold an election to the 601-member Constituent Assembly by mid-April 2008, was approved by a two-third majority vote in the interim parliament.
Out of 321 parliament members, 270 voted in favor of the amendment with three against.
