A brick was thrown at the window of New Zealand Prime Minister Helen Clark's Mt Albert electorate office in Auckland early Tuesday morning, police said.
A communications spokeswoman said the brick was thrown around 00:30 a.m. local time Tuesday (1130 GMT, Monday), with the offender seen disappearing on a motor scooter immediately afterward, the New Zealand Press Association (NZPA) reported.
Police were investigating the incident.
A group has claimed responsibility for delivering a not so welcome New Year gift for the prime minister.
An email from a lobby group, People Power, claimed that the brick was thrown in protest against the Electoral Finance Act, which came into force on Jan. 1.
People Power describes itself as a stand alone, non-politically affiliated citizens lobby group that wants to see democracy returned through the repealing of the Electoral Finance Act.
It was the second time the Prime Minister's Electoral Office has been targeted by vandals. Right-wing activist Tim Selwyn took to the office with an axe in November 2004. He was later jailed for willful damage, publishing a seditious statement about the act and fraud. Source: Xinhua
