A driver was killed and an American wounded in a shooting at U.S. Embassy vehicle in Sudan on Tuesday morning, al-Arabiya TV channel earlier reported.

The report said that the driver, probably a Sudanese, was killed in the shooting at the sports utility vehicle that belongs to the U.S. Embassy in Sudan.

The incident was happened in a main street in Sudan's capital city of Khartoum early Tuesday morning, and an American was wounded in the chest in the same shooting.

But the report has not been confirmed by neither the Sudanese government nor the U.S. embassy in Khartoum because of a day off on New Year's day.

The incident came only one day after U.S. president George W. Bush signed in a law the "Sudan Accountability and Divestment Act of 2007" which had been passed by the Congress on Dec. 19.

The bill aims at providing protection from lawsuits to State and local divestment efforts in Sudan to sanction it over the Darfur crisis labeled genocide by the U.S. administration.

Relations between Khartoum and Washington have been cold since later 1990s as the U.S. administration imposed economic sanctions on the African country, accusing it of supporting the Islamic terrorism.
