Ukrainian President Victor Yushchenko on Tuesday recalled 2007 as "a hard year" and looked forward to 2008 in his New Year address.
"We have a hard year behind us," said the president in the address.
"We have brought the Ukrainian ship out of the storm and now it is time for calm and coordinated work," he said.
Ukrainians are united in "their happiness after winning the bid to hold Euro-2012" world soccer championship and also in "its grief when lives of innocent people were lost during accidents in Dnipropetrovsk and at the Zasyadko mine," said the president, noting "neither these catastrophes and their victims nor their causes shall be forgotten."
Saying "everything will be fine," Yushchenko foresaw 2008 as "a year of big opportunities."
