Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said Wednesday the country's economy will get more resilient to external pressures this year and is already on track to achieve a faster growth amid worries of a global economic slowdown.
"The post-crisis economic development is moving to the right direction. The economic fundamentals are getting stronger as they could absorb such external pressures as the (U.S.) subprime mortgage woes and global oil price rises," Susilo said when leading a ceremony to resume trading at the Indonesian Stock Exchange (BEI) here.
"The economy is now more resilient to external pressures."
The president said he was confident that the projected slowdown in the global economy would have little impact on Indonesia.
"We must anticipate the 'economic slowdown' but there is nothing we need to extremely worry about, because the Indonesian economy has a positive outlook for 2008."
The BEI was a merger of the Jakarta Stock Exchange and the Surabaya Stock Exchange that operated with the new name for the first time on Wednesday. Source: Xinhua
