A security guard was killed when an explosive device went off near a video shop on the outskirts of the northwestern city of Peshawar early Sunday, according to local press reports.

Sherzada, the security guard, was asleep when the device planted near the video shop was detonated by some unknown outlaws.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Owners of music CD shops in some areas in the North West Frontier Province have said that they have received threatening letters from unidentified people, asking them to close down the business.

The owners have hired private security guards following the threats.
