Spain's National Guard on Sunday arrested two young men and charged them with being members of illegal armed rebel group ETA, said Spanish news services.
The two men were identified as Igor Portu Jaurarena and Martin Sarasola, both residents of Lesaka, in northern Spain's Navarra region.
The two were arrested on a highway close to Arrasate, a town in the Basque region of Guipuzcoa, carrying two pistols wrapped in cellophane, which appeared to have been issued recently.
ETA, whose name stands for Euskadi Ta Askatasuna or Basque Homeland and Freedom in the Basque language, seeks independence for the Basque Country, a region that straddles northeastern Spain and southwestern France.
According to the Spanish government, ETA has killed about 850 people using bombs and guns since 1968. Source:Xinhua
