Philippine rescuers on Monday morning still got no trace of two people who went missing in a festival-turned-disaster parade when a floating pagoda hit wires and electrocuted 40 revelers.
Local television network GMA News quoted a vice mayor of Masantol town in northern Pampanga province saying that 20 of the 40 revelers "sustained serious injuries" while the two missing, the report said, "were feared dead."
The accident occurred on Sunday afternoon when at least 100 revelers, riding on a floating pagoda, came to cross the Pampanga River. The metal arch of the pagoda hit a cable of a local electric company, causing sparks and electrocution.
"Resulting sparks and popping sounds reportedly electrocuted revelers aboard the floating pagoda, and prompted the others to panic and jump into the Pampanga River," the report said.
Rescuers were forced to stop the salvation late Sunday night due to the shortage of equipment.
