One soldier of the U.S-led Coalition forces was killed and two others wounded by an improvised explosive device (IED) on Monday in the eastern Afghan province of Nangahar, said a Coalition statement.
The Coalition soldiers were responding to an IED discovered by Afghan National Security Forces earlier Monday when a secondary device detonated near their vehicle, the statement said.
The two wounded were evacuated to a Coalition medical facility for treatment and their conditions are unknown at this time, it added.
However, the names and nationalities of the deceased and wounded are being withheld pending the notification of the next-of-kin.
Conflicts and Taliban-related violence had claimed the lives of more than 6,000 people in 2007 while observers and NATO commander in Afghanistan expect upsurge in militants attack this year.
