Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt called on Georgians on Monday to accept the results of the presidential election held at the weekend, in which Mikhail Saakashvili has won a second term as Georgia's president.
The election showed the country chose democracy and economic reforms despite previous criticism of weakness, Carl Bildt said in a statement.
The foreign minister went on to say that some of the opposition leaders were intent on sabotaging the election by refusing to admit defeat.
The Central Commission of Election in Georgia announced on Sunday that former Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili won 52.8 percent of ballots in preliminary results. The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) said it was a just election.
But an estimated 10,000 opposition activists protested against the results in the capital.
