Mohamed ElBaradei, director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), will begin a two-day visit to Iran Friday to help solve the Iranian nuclear issue, agency spokeswoman Melissa Fleming said Monday.
;ElBaradei hopes his visit can contribute to clarifying some vague issues regarding Iran's nuclear programs, and would help to find measures to improve and accelerate the IAEA's supervision and inspection of the programs, Fleming said.
She said the enhancement of cooperation between the IAEA and Iran would help solve the nuclear issue.
Fleming said ElBaradei would meet some senior Iranian officials, but refused to give details.
On Dec. 30, Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said Tehran would put the country's first nuclear power plant into operation with half capacity in the summer of 2008.
The United States has accused Iran of trying to develop nuclear weapons under the cover of a civilian nuclear program, which Iran has denied. Iran insists its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes only.
The UN Security Council has adopted two resolutions - one in December 2006 and the other in March of 2007 - to force Iran to suspend uranium enrichment activities and to give up its nuclear programs. Source:Xinhua
