Three suspected drug traffickers were shot dead in a fierce gun battle with Mexican troops and police Monday, authorities said.
The shootout took place in the town of Rio Bravo, across the border from Donna city in the U.S. state of Texas, when Mexican federal agents chased a van full of people carrying assault weapons, authorities said a joint statement.
Three suspected criminals were killed in the battle and 10 soldiers and policemen were injured, the security forces said.
Police also arrested 10 people and seized guns, grenades and bulletproof vests.
The Mexican state of Tamaulipas, where Rio Bravo is situated, has been plagued by drug violence.
Last year, more than 2,500 people were killed in Mexico in drug-related murders despite the military clampdown on traffickers. Source: Xinhua
