The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) on Tuesday urged an early announcement of final election results in Georgia.
The election, which is an important step and test of democracy, met the democratic standards, French Ambassador Eric Fournier, an OSCE observer, told a press conference.
He called for an early announcement of election results based on all counted votes.
The observer also urged the Georgian government to take measures to address the disputes arising from Saturday's election.
Former president Mikhail Saakashvili has won more than 52 percent of most counted ballots, securing a narrow victory and avoiding a run-off in the Caucasus nation, election administration figures showed.
His closest competitor, Levan Gachechiladze who is backed by the nine-party opposition, won some 25 percent of votes and vowed to protest against the results.
The Central Election Commission is expected to officially announce the final results within eight days after the election day, according to Georgian election laws. Source:Xinhua
