A series of moderate earthquakes with magnitudes of 5.8 and 5.0 rattled cental and eastern parts of Indonesia on Wednesday, with no immediate report of damages or casualty, meteorology agency said here.
The first quake of 5.8 Ritcher scale hit at 02:03 Jakarta time (1903 GMT Tuesday) with epicenter at 162 kilometers southwest Fak Fak or West irian Jaya province in easternmost of Indonesia and at10 kilometers in depth, an official of the agency said.
About four hours later, the second quake struck with epicenter at 133 kilometers southeast Pekalongan town of Central Java province and at 546 kilometers in depth.
Indonesia is laid at a vulnerable zone so called "the Pacific Ring of Fire" where two continental plates, stretching from the Western Hemisphere through Japan and Southeast Asia, meet that cause frequent volcanic movements. Source:Xinhua
