Chinese Ambassador to South Korea Ning Fukui urged on Wednesday here for appropriate measures including compensation to the Chinese victims from Monday's explosion in the city of Icheon.
During a meeting with Cho Byung-dun, mayor of the Icheon city, Ning asked Cho to help the families of the victims and take appropriate measures to avoid similar tragedies.
According to the Chinese embassy, 12 Chinese nationalities were killed in the accident, while another one Chinese is still in critical condition. The identities of two Chinese victims have been approved so far.
Cho promised the Icheon city government will do its utmost to deal with the issues arising from the explosion and help the families of the victims to seek reasonable compensation from the related companies and insurance firms.
He said he greatly regretted for Monday's accident, which killed a total of 40 people and injured 10 others, in Icheon.
Following the meeting with Cho, Ning met with head of local police and visited families of the victims in Icheon.
