A storm system caused by abnormal warm winter weather pounded central parts of the United States in last two days, leaving at least six people dead.

The National Weather Service (NWS) said Wednesday that the winter storm has brought tornadoes and floods to Missouri, Tennessee, Kentucky, Wisconsin, Arkansas, Illinois and Oklahoma, and spun off floods in Indiana, where at least three people were killed.

Two more deaths were reported from Missouri and one was confirmed dead in Arkansas.

The NWS said the storm system is moving east and has already hit New York state, where some 40,000 customers were knocked out of power.
