Visiting U.S. President George W. Bush and Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert are holding talks in Jerusalem on Wednesday shortly after he met with Israeli President Shimon Peres.
Olmert is expected to present Bush with Israel's stands regarding the negotiations with the Palestinians, as well as current information about the Iranian nuclear program.
Bush arrived earlier in the day in Israel, the first leg of his eight-day Middle East trip which will also take him to the Palestinian territories, Kuwait, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Egypt.
During an early meeting with Peres, Bush said he arrived in the region with high hopes that a Middle East peace pact could be achieved before he leaves office at the end of the year.
For the first time since he took office in 2000, President Bush is visiting Israel and later the Palestinian territories, trying to advance peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians in the wake of the U.S.-hosted Annapolis peace conference last November. Source:Xinhua
